Ditch the Hustle, Design Your Life

Find the balance you crave

Build a Career That Supports Your Life, Not the Other Way Around

How often do you feel like your to-do list is running your life instead of vice versa? Late-night emails, the rescheduled coffee dates with friends, the vacation days that somehow never get used – we’ve all been there. This week, we're flipping the script: let's build careers that fuel our lives, not drain them.

Here’s how to design a career that thrives with you:

Redefine “Success” (It’s Personal)

Forget the cookie-cutter image of success. The corner office isn't the only destination! What does your ideal life look like? Is it flexibility for family, work that aligns with your values, or a role that challenges you but leaves room for your passions?

📝 Jot down 3 things that define "success" for you. Think about professional achievements and how you want to feel daily.

Boundry Bootcamp: Protect Your Time

Boundaries aren't selfish; they're essential! Without them, work will fill every gap. Start small, but start now. Maybe it's a consistent "leave work" time twice a week, truly unplugged weekends, or silencing notifications during dinner.

✋ Choose ONE boundary to set this week. Perhaps schedule non-negotiable blocks of time for activities that nourish your non-work self. Communicate it clearly— teach others how to respect your time.

Strategic Ambition > Endless Hustle

Ambition doesn't mean saying "yes" to everything. It's about making choices that enhance your overall life. Before chasing that next opportunity, ask yourself: Does this align with my definition of success? Will it support my well-being?

🔍 Next time a big opportunity comes your way, pause. Evaluate it through your lens of success, not just external expectations.

Define Your “Enough”

In a culture that constantly pushes for more - more productivity, more achievements, more money, defining your "enough" is revolutionary.

What salary actually covers your needs plus some meaningful wants? How much recognition truly satisfies you? What level of professional achievement would allow you to say, "This is sufficient," rather than immediately reaching for the next target?

🎯 For one aspect of your career (earnings, title, recognition), define what "enough" looks like for you right now.

Remember, this isn't about working less; it's about working smarter and with intention. It’s about building a career that supports a full and meaningful life.

We normalize these topics by talking openly with friends and colleagues.  I have been discussing this in my book and cooking clubs to spark conversation about "enough." It's been fascinating to hear my friend's take on success. I encourage you to do the same.

💬 What's ONE small step you'll take this week towards a more balanced you? We'd love to hear from you – leave a comment to let us know!

Until next week,
